Molded Pulp Engineering (MPE) specializes in designing, prototyping and manufacturing molded pulp packing and products to replace plastic & other less-sustainable components across a variety of applications. At MPE, we have the capability of laminating our pulp, which changes the physical properties of the material to withstand moisture and extreme temperatures, creating huge opportunities for industries looking to move away from plastic packaging & products. Our state-of-the-art tools allow us to design and produce creative and innovative designs from initial concept through manufacturing.

Custom Pulp Packaging
Molded pulp fiber is durable, and works well to protect glass products, electronic components, and fragile medical devices throughout the shipping cycle. Coated molded fiber is static neutral and is an ideal packaging material for shipping electronic components to prevent part damage, static electricity, and dusting from fiber abrasion. Because our molded pulp products are laminated, they can withstand cold & hot temperatures and are resistant to moisture, making them ideal for packaging food and beverages.
At MPE, we are proud to offer custom packaging services for specific, specialized projects. Our engineering and design teams will work with you from prototyping through production to create a packaging solution that is tailored specifically to your needs. Our sustainable materials consist of renewable virgin fibers such as bagasse (sugar cane fiber), bamboo, straw, wheat and other various blends of grass fibers. All of these materials used to create molded pulp are sustainable and biodegradable, meaning that the packaging you get from MPE is not only custom-made for your specific project, but environmentally friendly and renewable as well.
Example of Custom Pulp Packaging
Biodegradable packaging is the desired packaging for many companies looking to be socially responsible. One company wanted to package their large electronic part in molded pulp. Our specialty is to design and engineer custom parts to meet our clients criteria. The product weighs 57 pounds and holds a price tag equivalent to its hi-tech appeal. Hence, the packaging needed to look the part with the same appeal. Our design team was able to work with the companies team to have the desired insert packaging meet the needs for our customer, look sleek and be 100% biodegradable and compostable.
Custom Pulp Products
While molded pulp is ideal for many packaging solutions, it is also a perfect material for a variety of products across a variety of industries. A large number of businesses of every kind utilize plastic parts in a wide array of products, and in almost every case, would benefit from a switch to an eco-friendly product like molded pulp.
Our molded pulp products are sourced from renewable fibers such as bagasse (sugar cane fiber), bamboo, wheat, straw, and various other blends of grass fibers. These sustainable materials used to create molded pulp are all biodegradable, meaning that the specialized products you get from MPE are not only custom-made for your specific project, but environmentally friendly and renewable as well.
Example of Custom Pulp Products
Molded Pulp can be used for an incredible variety of specific projects, like this bait capsule made to deliver bait to an invasive species of Brown Tree Snakes in Guam, which are decimating the local population of birds. These molded pulp capsules contain the bait, and are resistant to weather conditions while still being biodegradable as to not harm the environment.
These are the updated baits that now make use of the new capsule and end cap we all worked so hard to develop. The performance was fabulous! Our old paper pulp components with the tang-in-slot instead of the new-tang-in bathtub were poor performers in terms of deploying when ejected in flight (many unfurled duds, on the order of 50%, which was unacceptable.) We haven’t run the numbers yet from our GO PRO footage, but we believe we are in the mid to upper 90’s, well beyond the spec of 80%. Our customer is going to be thrilled, as are we!
