THE CHALLENGE: An advanced electronic company was in search of sustainable electronics packaging for a very large piece of equipment that would not only keep the part safe through shipping, but also be 100% biodegradable, compostable and have a finished look for their valuable product.
THE SOLUTION: This project took a team of design engineers, manufacturing engineers, a sales team to find the perfect vendor to create the part and a company that has the technology to meet the clients end needs. The packaging needed to house the electronic part, be embossed with part numbers, nest well for shipping purposes to be cost effective and look good. The process took a bit of time to make strategic changes to the design. A timeline for a prototype and production also needed to be met.
THE RESULT: The result was an esthetically pleasing packaging part with dimensions of 35.12″ x 21.97″ x 9.29″. It consisted of a top and bottom part that is smooth to the touch. This application met the needs of sustainability as it is derived from renewable resources that consist of bamboo and bagasse. It is biodegradable and 100% compostable. The client’s needs were met to complete satisfaction.
